In 2019, the Sennan Asbestos Museum opened next to the Kumano Kaido, south of the memorial monument. This museum was built by the bereaved family of the late Dr. Shoji Kajimoto on the site of what used to be his clinic, where he had continuosly advocated the dangers of asbestos during the heyday of the asbestos spinning and weaving industry in the pre-war and post-war periods. Its objective is to pass on to future generations the damage that is caused by asbestos, as well as to exhibit and store the belongings of the late Dr. Kajimoto. It contains the records of residents’ movements and of the Sennan Asbestos National Compensation Lawsuit, and it also serves as a base for activities related to the eradication of asbestos damage.
