Sightseeing spot introduction
Rige-jinja shrine is said to have been founded during the reign of Emperor Nintoku (through years 313 to 399) with Kureha Daimyojin as its guardian deity. The story of Kureha Daimyojin tells of a woman textile worker who came to Japan from “Wu” (region in China) and introduced the weaving technique “Hataori” to Japan. Kureha Daimyojin is worshipped as a guardian goddess of “Hataori”.
It is also said that the “Okada” flounder, which was presented to Emperor Go-Toba, was bred in the fish pool that remains in the precincts of the temple.
