The Kishu Kaido was developed as a road for sankin-kotai, and it became a custom for the Kishu Tokugawa family to stay at this Tsunoya family inn for officials.
Open to the public every year to coincide with the spring Wisteria Festival
Many valuable items of the future 8th Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune from the Kishu Domain era are carefully maintained to convey the appearance of the era, including inn signs and lodging assignments for the daimyo’s procession of about 1500 people.
